Heavenly Downloads in the Shower!

Have you ever noticed some of your best ideas come when...you're in the shower?!  Or, perhaps, the bath?  It's set apart time, when you're by yourself and not talking.  You're not
distracted by anyone or anything else.  If you're a follower of Christ, it's uninterrupted time when He can fully get your attention and speak to you.

Psalm 46:10 says, "Be still, and know that I am God;"  To be still is to be quiet, and listening.  To be still is to seek, and welcome, the life-giving, hope-instilling, wisdom and comfort and guidance-giving Presence of God.  And to know, "Yadah" in Hebrew is intimacy.

In 1 Kings 19, the faithful servant of God, Elijah, had just traveled 40 days and 40 nights to reach Mt. Horeb (also considered Mt. Sinai).  This is the very same mountain where Moses encountered God initially, in the burning bush, at it's base.  It's also where Moses met with God and received the ten commandments.

God asked Elijah why he was there, and he essentially said he was scared, and felt alone.  He had literally just run for his life.  So God told him to "Go out and stand on the mountain in the Presence of the Lord, for the Lord is about to pass by."  So he did.  And "a great and powerful wind tore the mountains apart and shattered the rocks," but the Lord was not in the wind."  "After the wind there was an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake."  "After the earthquake came a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire.  After the fire came a gentle whisper."  That is where the Lord was.  In the whisper.  In the quiet.  This is when He comforted Elijah and gave him hope.

In the relative quiet of the shower, if we're listening, He speaks.  At least for me it happens that way.  He speaks to me in quiet thoughts that come flooding into my mind.  All of a sudden something I may have been wondering about is clarified!  Which direction to take regarding various plans becomes clear.  Ideas come to mind, etc.

I quickly write these things down immediately after the shower in order to be able to follow through accordingly.  And they're always good ideas!  That tells me they're from Him!  Just like when we download items to our computers, God downloads His thoughts to us through His Holy Spirit!  So, next time you get ready to lather up...also get ready to listen to what He may have to say to you.  It will give you peace, confidence, and hope.
